The following message was sent to Moose Moxon who visited Peter on 2 occasions. Further details about Peter's remarkable career and his 100th birthday celebrations can be found in the "Stories" section.
It is with regret that I write to inform you that following a short illness, Peter Carrie passed away peacefully this afternoon. His family had travelled down from Scotland yesterday to be with him and were privileged to be by his bedside when he died. It is the end of an era to have had such a courageous wartime soldier and aircrew member as one of our In-Pensioners and he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
It is a little early regarding the funeral date and I will inform you once it is has been decided.
Thank you again for all you did for Peter during his latter years here at The Royal Hospital. You really made everything very special for him and both he and his family deeply appreciated your kindness.
With all good wishes
Update 14 Feb 18:
The funeral was held in the Royal Hospital Chelsea on 30 January 2018. Nige Painter and Jim Stokes were in attendance representing the RAF and BBMF whilst a personal note from Moose Moxon was read out during the service. Peter's family commented on how proud he was of his RAF service and his Engineer's brevet which was re-presented in 2014.
